Backslashes vs. Forward Slashes

Windows uses backslashes, just as DOS did. For example, the path to a user’s directory on Windows is:

C:\Users\Name

On Linux, the path to a user’s home directory is:

/home/name

You will also notice that URLs in your web browser – even on Windows – use forward slashes. For example, it’s http://www.howtogeek.com/article, not http:\\www.howtogeek.com\article.
